For the first time, the North Dakota Office of the Secretary of State held a contest to select a new “I Voted” sticker for the state. Haylee Senger from Bottineau submitted the winning “You Betcha I Voted” sticker design, which debuted at the polls during the 2026 Primary Election on June 9.
The "I Voted - More Than Just a Sticker” statewide design contest invited North Dakotans of all ages to create the next official "I Voted" sticker. Designs were submitted by 478 artists of all ages and skill levels from all corners of the state. Four finalists were selected and then 4,792 North Dakotans voted to decide the winner.
The contest is part of the Office of the Secretary of State's efforts to encourage North Dakotans to become more civically involved in decisions that impact them, their families, and neighbors.
"This contest represents more than just designing a sticker – it was a way for North Dakotans to become part of our state's election history." - Secretary of State Michael Howe
“I thought it was so cool that they were having a contest and that anybody and everybody could enter. My coworker and I were spitballing ideas, and I thought of the Midwestern slogan, You Betcha. And I thought, You Betcha, I Voted. And a couple of days later I started designing it and it just came to life.” - Haylee Senger

"The tone of the sticker is upbeat and fun. Elections are competitions of ideas and candidates and personalities. But the actual process and participation should be fun. In the United States we are so lucky, we get to decide our leaders. Our leaders are our friends, our neighbors, our family. And people should have fun participating in democracy and this new sticker embodies all of that.” - Secretary of State Michael Howe
